Puri feeds pilgrims and the sea in equal measure. Street food in Puri is split between two worlds — the temple lanes of Grand Road where Khaja and Papodi have been sold for centuries, and the beach stretch where Chhena Poda and Rasgulla vendors set up by the water. This Puri food guide is really about understanding that rhythm. Dahi Vada near the Lighthouse in the morning, a banana leaf thali at Ganesh Mess or Dalma Restaurant at noon, and Chhena Gaja from Govindo's stall in the evening. The Odia thali here — with Dalma, Aloo Posto and Mango Khatta — is not something you'll find done this way anywhere else. Puri doesn't dress its food up for tourists, and that's exactly why it's worth eating here.
