Dalhousie's food scene is small, honest and tied to its colonial hill-town character — there are no grand restaurants here, just a handful of spots that locals and tourists both swear by. Vicky Corners at Gandhi Chowk is where the day starts: gobi, aloo-pyaaz and mix parathas served with Verka dahi and Amul butter, crispy enough to eat without any accompaniment. Deep Food Corner near Panchpula waterfall has been making aloo-pyaaz pakodas and adrak chai for 30 years — the double-fry technique Rajkumar uses gives the pakodas a crunch that single-fry versions never achieve. The Tibetan Colony momos, made by a family settled here since 1975, are the best momos in Dalhousie — locals and tourists both make the trip specifically for them. On Mall Road, Sunny da Dhaba serves butter chicken at ₹500 for 16 pieces from 4 PM onwards, and Sharma Dhaba and Himalaya Dhaba are the go-to budget dinner spots near Gandhi Chowk. What makes Dalhousie different from other Himachal hill stations is the pace — the food here is unhurried, the portions are generous, and the cold air makes everything taste better.

Dalhousie is famous for Momos (steamed and fried), Maggi at viewpoints, Rajma Chawal, Himachali Siddu (stuffed steamed bread), and bakery items. Gandhi Chowk and Mall Road are the main food areas. The hill station's cold weather makes hot momos and chai the perfect combination year-round.

What Travelers Are Saying

Real experiences from food explorers across India

"The gobi paratha at Vicky Corners is properly crispy — not the soft, oily kind you get at most places. The filling stays packed to the last bite and the Verka dahi alongside is cold and thick. Reached at 8 AM and the place was already half full with locals."

🍽️ Gobi Paratha at Vicky Corners

Harpreet Singh

Travelled from Amritsar

"The double-fry technique at Deep Food Corner makes a real difference — the pakodas have a crunch that lasts even after they cool slightly. Sitting outside with the Panchpula waterfall sound in the background and a cup of adrak chai is one of those Dalhousie moments you don't forget. The imli-pudina chutney is sharp and fresh."

🍽️ Aloo Pyaaz Pakoda at Deep Food Corner

Meera Kapoor

Travelled from Delhi

"The wrappers on these momos are noticeably thinner than anywhere else in Dalhousie — you can actually taste the filling without the dough overpowering it. At ₹100 for 10 pieces it's fair. One thing to note: there are a lot of monkeys in the Tibetan Colony area, so keep your food close."

🍽️ Veg Momos at Tibetan Colony Momos

Rohit Sharma

Travelled from Chandigarh

"The butter chicken at Sunny da Dhaba is not the sweet, creamy Delhi version — it has whole spices and a more robust flavour. 16 pieces for ₹500 is genuinely good value in a hill station. The tandoori roti at ₹10 is the right pairing. Gets busy after 7 PM so go early."

🍽️ Butter Chicken at Sunny da Dhaba

Priya Nanda

Travelled from Ludhiana

"The dal makhani at Sharma Dhaba is thick and well-tempered — exactly what you want after a cold day in Dalhousie. The portions are generous and the price is reasonable. Both Sharma and Himalaya Dhaba next door are good; we went to Sharma because the wait was shorter."

🍽️ Dal Makhani at Sharma Dhaba

Anil Verma

"The gulab jamuns at Bawas are made in desi ghee and you can taste the difference — richer and less cloying than the standard versions. Hot off the kadhai they're very good. My family ended up ordering two plates. The Mall Road location makes it an easy stop while walking."

🍽️ Desi Ghee Gulab Jamun at Bawas Cafe

Sunita Rawat

"Vicky Corners is the right place to start a Dalhousie morning. The mix paratha has a good crunch and the filling is well-spiced. The chana bhatura is also solid. The place gets crowded on weekends — we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table on a Saturday."

🍽️ Mix Paratha at Vicky Corners

Vikram Thakur

Travelled from Shimla

"The chholey puri at Khajjiar is simple street food but eating it at the edge of that meadow with deodar trees all around makes it taste better than it has any right to. At ₹40 it's a good snack between exploring the meadow and the Khajji Nag temple. Don't expect a meal — it's a light snack."

Kavita Mehta

"The chicken momos at the Tibetan Colony are worth the walk. The skin is thin and the filling is properly seasoned — not the bland, doughy version you get at tourist stalls. The sauces are good too. The monkey situation in the area is real though — a group of them came close while we were eating outside."
